Working Group 6 was established to support the promotion of women into higher ranks of academia. This interdisciplinary group seeks to examine the role of gender in academia by focusing on key areas:
Research demonstrates these challenges persist across all SACRU universities, regardless of country or discipline. To foster professional development, academic growth, and a supportive community for women in the early stages of their academic careers, the group has developed a pilot international mentoring program. The mentoring program will consist of nine online group sessions, guided by senior female faculty from each participating university. The sessions build upon one another across three overarching themes:
Sessions will explore barriers to the promotion of women into senior academic ranks, develop skills for managing work-life balance and effective communication, and examine strategies for leading and creating institutional change.
This pilot will include 16 senior faculty mentors and up to 64 pre-tenure faculty members across SACRU universities. We will also conduct a quantitative and qualitative evaluation of the program to inform future expansion and long-term implementation.
